Fafnir was once a powerful mythborn dwarf prince, expert in jewelry and master craftsman like many of his kind. After the Gods (namely Odin and Loki) mistakenly killed his brother (heir to the trone), the dwarf king demanded payback. Therefore, the God of mischief stole a powerful ring, the Andvaranaut, from another dwarf named Andvari. However, the ring itself was a titanspawn of Dis Pater and, though it provided its owner with endless riches, would also cause its doom. Andvari had used the ring cautiously using Kannagara No Michi and Loki knew of its danger, but "forgot" to warn the dwarf king…

Soon, consumed by envy and greed, Fafnir killed his father for the ring. Abusing its power, the mythborn became consumed by the fires of avidity and avarice. With more and more riches, his Legend began to fuse with the ring itself…and he transformed into a titanspawn of Greed in the form of a wingless and twisted dragon.

But one does not escape Fate long. Sigurd, a powerful Godborn of Odin, hunted down the beast and killed it, its blood covering the hero and making him invulnerable in all but one place on his back (where a leaf had landed).

However, a titanspawn is not killed easily and the fires of greed roared, bringing the dragon back to life in Muspelheim, under the watchful eye of Kagutsuchi. It was the Titan of Lava who had called upon the dragon to protect his mighty volcano. In exchange, the rare minerals of lava would flow to the dragon to clench his hunger. Fafnir is now the second in command of the Japanese Avatar, he is the incarnation of Lava as Riches. The beast still bleeds magma from its heart, but his hunger for gold pains him more…
